Overview
When setting up an ID verification flow with SEON, you can decide which verification types users must complete. This page walks you through each of these options, helping you build a verification process that meets your compliance requirements and risk appetite while keeping the user experience in mind.
Document verification
Document verification requires users to upload a government-issued ID to prove who they are.
- The user uploads an identity document (e.g., passport, driver’s license, national ID).
- The system checks the document for authenticity, validity, and consistency.
- You can include Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to extract data automatically.
Selfie check
Selfie check prompts users to snap a live photo of themselves, confirming they match the ID and are physically present.
- The user must capture a selfie for facial verification.
- A biometric comparison is performed between the selfie and the identity document photo or a reference photo provided by the customer.
- Includes liveness detection to prevent fraud using static images or deepfakes.
Proof of Address (PoA)
Proof of address asks users to provide a recent document, such as a utility bill or bank statement, to confirm where they live.
- The user submits a document proving their residential address (e.g., utility bill, bank statement, rental agreement).
- The system extracts and verifies the address details to ensure they match other provided information.
