Overview

After completing a manual lookup, batch upload or automatic screening is completed, the results are displayed in SEON immediately.

Where to find screening results

Manual & batch lookups: Results can be accessed within Manual Lookup and AML.

Automated screening: Results appear in multiple locations for easy access, including:

  • Transactions
  • Customers
  • Alerts

Understanding the AML information widget

No matter where you view your results, the AML information widget will give you a high-level overview of the customer screening, displaying:

The total number of matches, categorized by:

  • Sanctions
  • Crime lists
  • PEP lists (Politically Exposed Persons)
  • Watchlists
  • Adverse media

This view also includes input data details and the search type used (fuzzy search or exact match).
 

Viewing detailed results

Click on View hits to see detailed information for each matched entity. 

Additionally, by expanding the Sanction sources dropdown, you will see all the sanction regime sources checked along with their last update date.

 

Understanding result details

Each search result contains structured information to help assess the match. Below is a breakdown of each field with explanations and examples. Below is a breakdown of key fields by source type, with explanations and examples to guide your review.

 

Fields by source type

Sanctions

  • Sanction Regime: The name of the authority, regime or jurisdiction responsible for issuing the sanction. Examples include:
    • European Union (EU)
    • Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC, USA)
    • United Nations (UN)
    • UK’s HM Treasury (HMT)
  • Last update: The last date when the sanction list was last updated.

 

Crime lists 

  • Source: The law enforcement or correctional institution maintaining the record.
    • Examples: 
      • Florida Department of Corrections
      • USA California Most Wanted

 

PEP lists

A PEP is an individual who holds or held high-profile public positions, making them subject to increased scrutiny due to the potential risk of financial crime or corruption.

  • Source: The authority classifying the person as a PEP.
    • Example: Heads of State, Ministers, Government Officials Lists
  • Last update: The most recent date the PEP record was updated.
    • Example: 2025-02-24
  • PEP category: The classification of the individual as a politically exposed person.
    • Example: Head of State
  • Risk classification: The risk level associated with the individual.
    • Example: local PEP, PEP, RCA (Relative or Close Associate) 

 

Watchlists

Warning information: This section provides critical warnings related to the individual, by regulatory or financial authorities regarding the individual’s risk profile. 

Adverse media 

  • Source: The provider of the adverse media data 
  • FATF categories: Categories of adverse media risk as defined by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)
    • Example Values: 
      • Adverse-media
      • Adverse-media-v2-other-minor
      • Adverse-media-v2-violence-non-aml-cft
    • Articles list: A compilation of news articles or media sources referencing the individual or entity, including:
      • Publication dates
      • Article links
      • Excerpts from news reports

Identity & Personal Information

  • Name: The primary name of the sanctioned entity (individual or organization).
    Example: "John Doe"
  • Aliases (AKAs): Different name variations that may be associated with the entity.
    • Example: "Jon Doe," "J. Doe," "Jonathan Doe"
  • Date of birth: The individual's birth date.
    • Example: 1985-06-21
  • Place of birth: The location where the individual was born.
    • Example: London, UK
  • Country: The country or countries associated with the individual or entity.
  • Nationality: The individual’s country of citizenship.
    • Example: British

 

Tracking & database history

Details of when the individual or entity was first and last observed in the database.

  • First seen in database: The earliest recorded appearance of the individual or entity.
    • Example: 2023-04-29
  • Last seen in database: The most recent confirmation of the individual or entity in the system.
    • Example: 2024-06-14

 

Attributes & designations

Key characteristics associated with the entity that are typically provided in a key-value pair format. This section includes various identifiers, reasons for designation and additional information related to the individual’s assignment or background. The attributes can encompass:

  • Regulation identifiers: Unique references linked to specific sanction regulations.
    • Example: EU Regulation 2023/844
  • Program: The specific sanctions program under which the entity is listed.
    • Example: EU Restrictive Measures against Syria
  • Reference numbers: Unique identifiers assigned by regulatory bodies.
    • Example: EU.10030.38
  • Gender: The gender of the individual.
    • Example: Male
  • Function: The individual’s role, occupation or official position.
    • Example: 
      • Member of Parliament (Syria)
      • Chairman of the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry
  • Current/previous positions: Government or public roles held.
  • Political affiliation: The individual’s political party.
  • Employer: Organizations the individual is associated with.
  • Official designation date: The date the sanction was officially applied.
    • Example: 2023-04-24
  • Additional information: Contextual or biographical details related to the sanctioned person, such as professional background or CV data.

Each search result includes a relevancy score, which indicate the likelihood of a match.
