Overview

SEON’s identity verification solution (IDV) verifies user identities while enriching each verification step with fraud, digital footprint, device, IP, geolocation and behavioral risk signals. It combines document checks, biometric verification, and data-based validation into a single verification flow that can be run standalone or as part of a broader fraud and AML strategy.

Unlike traditional ID-only checks, SEON IDV adds contextual risk data (device, IP, behavioral signals) before, during and after verification to help detect fraud.

Identity verification components

SEON's AI-powered IDV is modular and customizable. Each component can be used individually or combined into a single verification workflow.

  • Document verification: Analyzes government issued identity documents, such as passports and driver’s licenses, in real time. Uses template free AI document analysis and decisioning to maximize acceptance rates while performing deep authenticity checks, including security feature validation, data consistency analysis, OCR based extraction, and advanced detection of manipulated, fake, or AI generated IDs.
  • eKYC and database verification: Cross-references user-provided information against official databases for instant identity confirmation.
  • Selfie and liveness check: Confirms if the user is a real, live person and biometrically matches the selfie to the photo on their ID document. It includes a passive liveness check and a vector-based face match.
  • Proof of address (PoA): Validates residential addresses using utility bills, bank statements and other official correspondence. It checks for document validity, AI tampering and matches the name and address against the ID document.

How it works

The identity verification flow follows four steps:

1. Session creation: A verification session is created via the SDK, generating a unique and secure URL.
2. Guided user capture: The user is guided through document and selfie capture based on the configured requirements.
3. Automated verification and analysis: SEON performs real-time analysis, including document verification, OCR, liveness detection, face matching, fraud signal evaluation, and data cross-referencing.
4. Consolidated results: A consolidated decision is returned via webhook and displayed in SEON, along with a detailed breakdown of all checks and risk signals.

Results and outcomes

Each verification session returns one of the following statuses:

  • PENDING: Verification is in progress
  • APPROVED: All required checks passed
  • DECLINED: One or more checks failed
  • REVIEW: Manual review required
  • ABANDONED: Session not completed within the allowed time

These results are delivered in real-time via webhooks and are available for detailed analysis in SEON.

Key benefits

SEON unifies your entire fraud and AML compliance strategy into a single platform. This eliminates the need for multiple point solutions and provides a holistic view of every user.

  • Built-on fraud signals: Every identity check is enriched with 900+ fraud signals, adding crucial context and enabling you to detect when real IDs are used by the wrong person.
  • Fraud filtering Before Full KYC: Screen users with real-time digital and device intelligence before they even begin the full KYC process, allowing you to block obvious fraudsters upfront.
  • Risk-based conditional workflows: Build and modify any customer journey with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface. Set different risk tolerance levels and combine flows with unique fraud signals.
  • One command center: Unify your fraud, IDV and AML operations. Manage rules, see complete customer risk profiles and handle case management from a single dashboard.
  • Single SDK: A single SDK installation powers fraud detection, identity verification, AML compliance and case management.

SDK integration

If you want to start using IDV, SEON provides flexible integration options:

  • SDKs: Native SDKs for iOS and Android provide a frictionless, in-app user experience. A Web SDK with mobile handoff capabilities is also available for desktop-to-mobile transitions.
  • Webhooks: Receive real-time notifications for verification events, such as idv:session_finished and idv:session_status_updated, to automate your internal workflows.
  • File requirements: The platform accepts JPEG, PNG and PDF file formats for document uploads, with a maximum file size of 16 MB.
