Settings: Scoring Threshold

Customize your risk appetite by adjusting the fraud scoring thresholds. This determines which orders are classified as Approved, Review, or Declined.

When SEON checks an order, it calculates a fraud score between 0 and 100. The score is based on default rules, custom rules you’ve created, and machine learning models. Each order is then assigned one of three states based on where the score falls relative to your thresholds:

• APPROVE (Low Risk) — Score falls below the Review threshold. The order is considered safe.
• REVIEW (Medium Risk) — Score falls between the Review and Decline thresholds. Manual review is recommended.
• DECLINE (High Risk) — Score falls above the Decline threshold. The order is considered high risk.

Warning: This is a global setting. Changing the scoring threshold will affect all Shopify stores connected to this SEON account.

Via the Shopify app

1. Open the SEON Fraud Prevention app from your Shopify admin.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Find the Scoring Threshold section.
4. Adjust the two threshold sliders:
   1. Review Threshold — The upper boundary of the Approve range. Orders scoring below this value are Approved.
   2. Decline Threshold — The upper boundary of the Review range. Orders scoring above this value are Declined.
5. Click Save. You’ll receive a confirmation message.

Example: If you set the Review threshold to 17 and the Decline threshold to 42:

• Scores 0–16 Approved (Low Risk)
• Scores 17–41 Review (Medium Risk)
• Scores 42–100 Declined (High Risk)

Via the SEON Admin Panel

1. Log in to the SEON Admin Panel.
2. Go to Settings – Configuration.
3. Adjust the threshold settings.
4. Click Save Settings.

• The Review threshold must always be lower than the Decline threshold.
• Changes apply to new orders only. Previous orders are not re-evaluated when thresholds change.
• Every business has a different risk appetite. We recommend monitoring SEON’s results after installation and adjusting thresholds based on your store’s patterns.
• The default thresholds are a balanced starting point. Further tuning is recommended as your transaction volume grows.
